Leading brand expert Marcel Knobil said sponsors could get concerned if Novak Djokovic gets perceived as a major anti-vaccination advocate.
Djokovic was refusing to reveal his vaccination for months but it became clear he was unvaccinated after he announced he was granted a medical exemption for the Australian Open.
“I don’t think his bank manager need worry at the moment,” Knobil told Telegraph Sport, as quoted on Sportskeeda. “However, his sponsors will definitely be keeping an eye on how things unfold. I doubt his sponsorships are currently under threat.”
After leaving detention in Australia, Djokovic confirmed he was unvaccinated.
“The big concern for various sponsors will be if he becomes perceived as a major anti-vaccination advocate and the anti-vax poster boy,” Knobil added.
Djokovic to remain a Hublot ambassador
“Hublot will continue its partnership with the world number. 1 tennis player,“ the luxury Swiss watch brand told Telegraph Sport. “Novak Djokovic is his own person. We cannot comment on any of his personal decisions.”
Djokovic’s visa was cancelled by the Australian Border Force upon his arrival to Australia.
Djokovic appealed the decision and on Monday the judge reinstated Djokovic’s visa.
After winning his case in court, Djokovic said he was grateful and pleased the judge ruled in his favor.
“I am pleased and grateful that the Judge overturned my visa cancellation. Despite all that has happened in the past week, I want to stay and to try to compete at the Australian Open. I remain focused on that. I flew here to play at one of the most important events we have in front of the amazing fans. For now I cannot say more but THANK YOU for standing with me through all this and encouraging me to stay strong,” Djokovic said in an Instagram post.
Hours after winning his case, Djokovic hit the practice court at Nelbourne Park.
