American tennis player Maxime Cressy revealed he’s inspiring himself from Rafael Nadal as he has always been impressed by the Spaniard’s attitude and dedication to the game.
Cressy, who is enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 75 in the world, made the Melbourne Summer Set final as a qualifier last week.
Cressy competed well in the final but it was Nadal who claimed a 7-6 (3) 6-3 win.
“I think I inspire myself from Rafa. I was impressed by his attitude and his dedication to always be prepared and no matter what be very vigilant, and I think I’m inspiring myself from him, and to be always disciplined,” Cressy said, per Sportskeeda. “Everyone is good and everyone can play well, and I always have to play my best tennis of the day.”
Cressy on how he felt after the final
“Yeah, of course I was a little excited after the Rafa match. A little painful match for me, but I moved on pretty quickly,” Cressy said. “Yesterday I was a bit excited, but I got myself down really quickly. I knew that if I wasn’t able to get to neutral position, today would not have gone well.”
Cressy says he is always giving his all on the court and playing like there is no tommorow.
“I consider every player the same,” Cressy said. “For me, every opponent is just as tough. I always have to bring out my best tennis. No, tomorrow I feel very confident, yeah.”
After the final, Cressy showed his class and had a few nice words for 20-time Grand Slam champion Nadal.
“Congrats to Rafa for an incredible performance today. I know it’s not easy playing a serve-and-volleyer these days, especially now that they’re gone, but it’s been an incredible honor to play against you and I’m super thrilled for you,” Cressy said after the final.
