Zheng Qinven speaks on not having courage to ask Rafael Nadal for picture

Zheng Qinven, 19, cited the Big Three as her idols and revealed she still watches Roger Federer when he is playing.

“He’s so classic on court and even now I still watch his videos when he’s playing. Of course, Djokovic and Nadal are amazing. I try to learn from them,” Qinven told the WTA website.

Qinven, ranked at No. 126 in the world, revealed saw Rafael Nadal on the practice court this week in Melbourne but she didn’t have the courage to approach him and ask for a picture.

“I saw one practice of him and wow, he’s amazing. I don’t have the courage to ask for a picture. I don’t want to disturb him. I really want the signature and the picture but maybe when I get better.”

Qinven aims a top-30 finish

Qinven revealed she would like to finish 2022 inside the top-30 but admitted she knows it’s not an easy task.

“I know it’s quite difficult but I believe that my level is there. At the moment I have to get through match by match, point by point. I think I have the level to be there.”

Qinven is set for a new career-high ranking when the WTA rankings list gets updated on Monday.

Qinven enjoyed the best week of her career at the Melbourne Summer Set 1.

Qinven made the Melbourne semifinal as a qualifier, before losing to former world No. 1 Simona Halep.

Halep, now ranked at No. 20 in the world, beat Qinven 6-3 6-2.

Halep didn’t have much problems against Qinven but praised the 19-year-old after the match.

“Very powerful. Some balls I didn’t even see them. Yeah, good surprised that she can hit so strong. She’s serving pretty strong also; 180 the first serve, which is huge, and she’s so young. I feel like she has a bright future,” Halep said of Qinven, per WTA Insider.
