Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios was sorry he had to pull out of the Melbourne Summer Set.
Kyrgios said he felt unwell the days leading up to the Melbourne Summer Set but COVID-19 wasn’t the reason because he returned several negative tests.
“I’m really sorry that I’ve had to pull out from this Melbourne Summer Set event. I have been feeling run down and unwell for 4 days. I have had several Covid tests over the last few days which all came back negative,” Kyrgios said.
I don’t feel 100% so I need to take this week to be ready for Sydney next week. I was really looking forward to experiencing the best fans in the world here at home! I can’t wait to get back out there and see you all. Take care out there and see you soon.”
Kyrgios pulled out due to asthma
Later it was that asthma was the reason why Kyrgios withdrew from the Melbourne Summer Set.
Kyrgios received a wildcard for Melbourne and he was extremely excited to play at the tournament.
“Obviously, I’m excited to play at home,” Kyrgios said after being awarded a wildcard. “Tennis Australia has done a great job getting things together and giving us more options to play at home before the Australian Open.
“Giving me a wildcard is awesome — I’ll do my best to put on a show for the fans.”
After being awarded a wildcard for Melbourne, Kyrgios reflected on his preseason.
“I feel good. A friend of mine, Dimi, has been working me out in the gym and I’ve had a few guys down from different parts of Australia hit with me over the last couple of months,” Kyrgios said. “I’m happy, I look forward to the summer in Australia and fingers crossed it all goes smoothly for everyone involved.”
Kyrgios is now expected to kick off his 2022 season next week in Sydney.
