Alize Cornet recalls feeling shocked by power of Aryna Sabalenka

Former world No. 11 Alize Cornet named Aryna Sabalenka as the most powerful player she has ever played.

Cornet, 31, is one of the most experienced players on the Tour and throughout the years she has played many great players.

Cornet and Sabalenka have had two meetings and the head-to-head between the two stands at 1-1.

Cornet beat Sabalenka at the Rome Masters in 2019, but Sabalenka destroyed Cornet 6-2 6-4 when they clashed in Dubai last year.

“I think the most powerful player I’ve played against I was really shocked was Sabalenka. Last year I played her in Dubai & I could barely play. It was another level. She can do mistakes of course but the speed of the ball & the power coming out of her was really amazing,” Cornet said, per Reem Abulleil.

Sabalenka explained the pressure of a Grand Slam semifinal

Sabalenka made her maiden Grand Slam semifinal at Wimbledon and then also reached the US Open semifinal.

Sabalenka was the favorite in both of her Grand Slam semifinals but each time ended on the losing side.

“I have worked with a psychologist for a very long time. In fact, if you look at me 4 years ago and now, I have improved my mental state. It seems to me that no psychologist will be able to prepare me for these situations (in Grand Slams). You have to experience it yourself, feel it, be nervous, understand this situation for yourself. I’m more than sure that in the next Grand Slam semi-final I won’t be so nervous. I will act with more confidence, I will not make the stupid mistakes I made in the important moments of the last semi-final. It’s a matter of experience, you have to go through it. I don’t think a psychologist will be able to prepare you for this,” Sabalenka said in October.
