World No. 29 Karen Khachanov has revealed that his main goal for 2022 is to return to the top-10.
Khachanov, a former world No. 8, has been ranked outside the top-10 since late 2019.
Khachanov is set to kick off his 2022 season in Adelaide, where he is set to meet Steve Johnson after having a first round bye.
“My main goal is to be in the top-10, it is not enough for me to be in the top-20. I know what I have to do to be there, I feel that I belong to that group, but it is a hard and daily process that I want to face. I am very motivated, I made a lot of effort during these last weeks and I will continue to do so in the coming weeks. We will see if I can achieve what I set out to do,” Khachanov said, as revealed on Punto de Break.
Khachanov became a Davis Cup champion
Khachanov was the main star of the Russian team at the Davis Cup in 2019 but last year he didn’t play in any singles matches.
“Time goes fast”, Khachanov recalled. “Two years have already passed but of course the memories are always great and they stay with you forever when you represent your country.”
Russia was also represented by Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev and Aslan Karatsev.
“We are a team so, at the end of the day, whoever feels ready will play. It’s a long competition from the Group Stage until the final with a lot of matches which take a lot of energy. So we will see day by day how everyone feels. I am ready to be involved,” Khachanov said before the start of the Davis Cup Finals.
Also, Khachanov revealed he followed Russia’s win at the Billie Jean King Cup.
“I followed the girls very closely,” Khachanov. revealed. “They did a great job. We are very happy and proud of them and I congratulated everyone personally.”
