Nick Kyrgios: Just appreciate it now while Roger Federer is here

Nick Kyrgios urged tennis fans to appreciate it niow while Roger Federer is still active on the Tour.

Federer, 40, underwent a knee surgery in August but he is targeting to make a return in 2022.

“Just appreciate it now while he is here,” Kyrgios said on his No Boundaries Podcast. “Roger Federer is on his back rehab and knee rehab right now to play only for half the fans in the world and himself.”

“People take all these athletes they’ve got now for granted. Like LeBron James, Steph Curry, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer. It is just human nature to take stuff for granted.”

Kyrgios suggested great players don’t get the credit as much as they deserve while active.

“When they retire, everyone says, ‘Oh, they were the best’. But whilst they are playing, it is always criticism,” Kyrgios said.

Kyrgios hoping to put on a show in Australia

Kyrgios wants to win and put on a show but made it clear that he is never feeling down after losing a match.

“When I’m out there I want to win, I want to put on a show,” Kyrgios said.

“But at the same time I don’t carry that weight as in like if I lose a tennis match it’s just a tennis match in my eyes now.

“It’s (my) perspective of things.”

Kyrgios received wild cards into Sydney and Melbourne and he is expected to play three tournaments during the Australian summer.

“Obviously, I’m excited to play at home,” Kyrgios said. “Tennis Australia has done a great job getting things together and giving us more options to play at home before the Australian Open.

“Giving me a wildcard is awesome — I’ll do my best to put on a show for the fans.”

it remains to be seen if Kyrgios can make any notable results in front of his home fans.
