Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova isolating in Melbourne after testing positive for virus

World No. 11 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova tested positive for COVID-19 upon her arrival to Australia.

Pavlyuchenkova landed in Australia on Tuesday and announced a positive COVID-19 test on Thursday.

Pavlyuchenkova is now in a complete isolation and following the instructions from the medical experts.

Pavlyuchenkova plans to return to the court once she feels well it’s safe for everyone.

“Hi everyone. Unfortunately, I have some bad news. I arrived in Australia on Tuesday and tested positive for COVID-19,” Pavlyuchenkova announced.

“I was fully vaccinated and was preparing for the start of the season in Dubai. But we live in a very difficult and unpredictable time. Right now I’m in complete isolation, in a special hotel and following all the protocols under the supervision of doctors.

“Now it’s important to take care of yourself and the health of others. I’ll be back on court when it’s safe for everyone. Take care of yourself.”

Pavlyuchenkova is a three-time Australian Open quarterfinalist

Pavlyuchenkova made the Australian Open quarterfinal in 2017, 2019 and 2020.

Pavlyuchenkova enjoyed Olympic success this past summer as she and Andrey Rublev won gold medal in mixed doubles.

Rublev is well-known for his serious demeanor and Pavlyuchenkova wanted to lighten the mood.

“I decided to lighten the mood, because I know that especially, at mixed doubles, it’s very easy to go downhill together and we were slowly getting there… You know Patrick and others used to tell me I should be serious on the court because if I’m serious, I want to win,” Pavlyuchenkova explained.

“So what, if I smile, I don’t win? So, if we smile and laugh with Andrey, we don’t care about the game. Something like that. It is (a stereotype). People get this impression. I don’t care for their emotion though, for me, result is what matters the most.”

When asked what she did to make Rublev smile, Pavlyuchenkova said: “I started telling Andrey some funny nonsense.”
