Argentine tennis star Diego Schwartzman was happy with his 2021 season and he is hoping to have a good 2022 season.
Schwartzman, ranked at No. 13 in the world, won his lone title at the beginning of the season in Buenos Aires.
Schwartzman also ended runner-up in Antwerp.
“2021 was a great year for me … I hope I can continue doing it,” Schwartzman told the ATP Tour Espana website.
Schwartzman’s best result at the Grand Slam level in 2021 came at the French Open, where he made the quarterfinal.
“I enjoy the fact of playing, luckily in recent years I have done well in the big tournaments. Sometimes when a Grand Slam tournament comes around and maybe you have to defend the quarterfinals, you say: ‘How many points do I have to defend! this season’.”
Schwartzman hopes to stay on top
Former world No. 8 Schwartzman revealed his goal for 2022 is to remain ranked inside the top-20.
“My goal is to stay within the top-15 or 20,” Schwartzman revealed.
Recently, Schwartzman inaugurated a tennis complex of 53 courts and a tennis lounge in Buenos Aires.
“I am very happy to start playing tennis here. I am very grateful to be here for the appointment of the Central Court. It is very special, I try to enjoy the moment. It’s a beautiful club, a beautiful country. It’s very special to me,” Schwartzman said.
Schwartzman recalled his tennis beginnings in Tigre, Buenos Aires.
“This place was very different when I came to mess with my friends. Some days we kids just played in front of the wall, there weren’t enough fields, so the big boys didn’t let our kids play, so I practiced against the wall. Years later, some of them still didn’t want me to play … But it was because I started hitting them,” added Schwartzman.
