‘Roger Federer, Nadal, Djokovic know that they are…’, says ATP ace

The Big 3 have monopolized the men’s circuit in the last decade and a half, rewriting the history of tennis and the record book. Novak Djokovic is still on the crest of the wave, having had a magnificent season which allowed him to remain at the top of the ATP rankings. The number 1 in the world won three majors in 2021, as well as having cradled a dream called ‘Calendar Grand Slam’. Having reached the final at the US Open, the Serbian champion had to surrender to tension and to an impeccable Daniil Medvedev. Despite the New York insult, the 34-year-old from Belgrade finished the year at the top of the ATP rankings for the seventh time in his career (knocking off his idol Pete Sampras). The situation of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal is very different, both of them struggling with some physical problems. The Swiss underwent knee surgery for the third time in the last 18 months, while the Spaniard was held back by a foot problem. Returning from Abu Dhabi, the 35-year-old Majorcan discovered he had contracted the Coronavirus. In a long interview with Eurosport, Andrey Rublev praised the greatness of the Big 3.

Andrey Rublev on the Big 3

“Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic know that they are at the top, doesn’t matter if they did not play tennis for a year or their ranking dropped, they know that they are the top ones. But for sure, they are taking players like me or other ones seriously because we are improving and we are playing better and better,” Rublev said. The 24-year-old further added that Next Gen players have proven that they can compete and should be taken seriously. “Guys like Medvedev, Zverev, Tsitsipas, they have proven already that they can win big tournaments and defeat top players. I am sure they are taking them and hopefully me as well seriously if they have to play against us. But like I said, they know who is the leader, who is the father.” World No. 1 Novak Djokovic has been one of the most dominating names in tennis over the past decade. He is a part of the “Big Three” in tennis along with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. However, he has been winning constantly and surpassing them in records in recent times. Recently, there was a survey in which Djokovic moved over Federer and Nadal, in yet another incredible statistic. In this study, tennis players with the most consecutive seasons exceeding 80% effectiveness in official matches were considered and ranked.
