Jannik SInner joins Daniil Medvedev in Rotterdam player field

World No. 10 Jannik Sinner has signed up to play Rotterdam in 2022, the tournament announced.

Sinner, 20, made his Rotterdam debut in 2020.

Sinner made the Rotterdam quarterfinal in his debut before losing to Pablo Carreno Busta.

Sinner enjoyed a great 2021 season as he broke into the top-10 for the first time in his career and made his debut at the ATP Finals.

“After his win in the Next Gen ATP Finals, we gave him a wild card in 2020 and he immediately made it to the quarter finals. This year he had a fantastic season with four tournament wins. He was the first teenager ever to win an ATP 500 tournament in Washington,” Rotterdam tournament director Richard Krajicek said.

The 2022 Rotterdam edition is set to feature some of the biggest names of the game as world No. 2 Daniil Medvedev and fourth-ranked Stefanos Tsitsipas are also expected to play.

Sinner, who won four titles in 2021, will certainly be one of the favorites for the Rotterdam title.

“It’s the end of the 2021 season for me, thanks everyone for you support throughout this year, it’s been a great one. As always there are many things to improve on but I’m so excited for next year and for what’s to come, see you all when I’m back on court in 2022,” Sinner said while reflecting on his season.

Sinner recovered from a set and a break down against Marin Cilic at the Davis Cup Finals.

2014 US Open champion Cilic spoke highly of Sinner at the Davis Cup Finals.

“Jannik, at his age, is already in the top 10. He’s playing very well, he’s having a great season. He’s just going to keep getting better and better. How far can he go? No one knows. But he already has an incredible level. These days you have to play really well in Grand Slams and be consistent to be a world No. 3. When I was in this position I had played for 12 months in an extraordinary way,” Cilic said.
