Rafael Nadal: ‘Maybe too tough to start after a long time’

The curtain falls on the Mubadala World Tennis Championship, the exhibition tournament held until Saturday 18 December in Abu Dhabi, in the capital of the United Arab Emirates. In the end it was the Russian Andrey Rublev, who thus gave himself the last joy on the field of 2021, beating former world number one Andy Murray in the final. In the final which awarded the third and relative fourth places in the event, Rafael Nadal suffered another setback after the one with Murray. A very useful test for the Spaniard to test his current physical condition, as he fought hard on the pitch with the very young Canadian. The native of Manacor won the first set at the tie-break, but collected the fierce comeback of the talented 22-year-old, able to make him the second set 6-3. In the 10-stroke super tie-break of the former tenth in the world rankings, who left his opponent at 6 and took the match home.

Nadal has returned after a while 

Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal was seen on the Tour after quite a while. The 35-year-old player was competing in the Mubadala World Tennis Championships in Abu Dhabi. Sadly, he lost in the two matches that he featured in. Speaking on his recent activities. Rafa stated, “Yeah maybe too tough to start after a long time. [Feeling] good, the goal is achieved. Be back on the court, play two matches. I spent more or less four hours on the court during the last two days. Three days because the day before I practiced with Rublev.” The 20-time champion added, “I have been here plenty of times so the thing is, if I [am] still playing tennis, I am always super happy to be here playing, so hopefully, I can keep coming during the next couple of years. [It has] been a must-stop before the beginning of the next season and this year was no exception.” The Spaniard has competed in this tournament plenty of times before. The 2021 edition was his 11th time playing here. Nadal said that if he continues to play the sport, he would be more than happy to play in Abu Dhabi again. “I have been here plenty of times so, the thing is if I’m still playing tennis then I’m always super happy to be here playing. So hopefully I can keep coming during next couple of years. As everybody knows here the organization, guys from Mubadala, I always enjoy it playing here. I’ve been, the last stop before beginning of the next season, so this year was an exception and I hope to keep going like this. I always enjoy it a lot here.”
