Felix Auger-Aliassime is thrilled to be working with Toni Nadal as he admits Uncle Toni has made wonders for him.
Auger-Aliassime started working with Nadal in April and since then he has made some notable results.
Auger-Aliassime failed to win his maiden ATP title in 2021 but he made his maiden Grand Slam semifinal at the US Open and broke into the top-10 for the first time in his career.
“Yeah, it was good I mean. Through conversations, through work on court, I think I’ve been able to just learn and just kind of take a lot of information from Toni and then cross it and see what I can take from that, learn from that. So just him being there, being present is a huge source of motivation and more than anything, a source of confidence and trust,” Auger-Aliassime said on The Match Point Canada podcast, per Sportskeeda.
Nadal brought confidence to Auger-Aliassime
Auger-Aliassime played good tennis at the last two Grand Slams of the season as he also made the Wimbledon quarterfinal.
“I think to summarize what Toni has brought this year, then he’s brought a lot of confidence in the team, that we’re on the right track, he’s brought confidence that making the semifinals of Grand Slams are challenging but it’s something that’s doable, something of a normality than something that’s extraordinary. He’s just brought a lot of confidence to myself and my team,” the Canadian said.
Also, Auger-Aliassime admitted there is tension whenever he plays his friend Denis Shapovalov.
“With Denis we have this good healthy rivalry, we’ve known each other for a long time but I just feel like there’s this tension when we play each other, we want to show our best, we want to play our best tennis and there are high quality matches every time we play,” Auger-Aliassime said.
