Pierre-Hugues Herbert absolutely enjoyed his victorious run with France in the 2017 Davis Cup and now he is hoping to capture his second title in the competition.
In 2017, Herbert was a member of the French team that beat Belgium in the final to win the Davis Cup.
Herbert has been a member of the French Davis Cup team for years as he and Nicolas Mahut have been one of the best doubles teams in the world for the past several years.
“They are amazing memories,” said Herbert, per the Davis Cup website. “It was a final on home soil in Lille against Belgium – it was just incredible. There were 15-20,000 people in the stands and there was a lot of emotion. After winning, following such a long wait, it was incredible.”
Herbert hopes he and Mahut will deliver
France is counting on Herbert and Mahut to deliver in doubles rubbers and Herbert is hoping they won’t disappointing.
Herbert and Mahut captured a Career Grand Slam together but even Herbert can’t explain what makes them such a great pair.
“It is difficult to say what makes us successful,” added Herbert. “It is a lot of things and sometimes it is things which you cannot really explain. But when we are on court together, we feel we’re one team.
“It has been so long that we have played together now. It is hard to play to a good level with someone, and it is even tougher to play with that person to a good level for a long time.
“This is what we have managed to do, and it is one of the things that I am most proud of, that we are still playing together after so many years, still having success and still having pleasure to play together.
“We are quite different and bring something to the other guy that maybe helps him on court. We are also good communicators and we have remained true to ourselves. Also, we do it as friends.”
