Feliciano Lopez speaks extremely highly of ‘special’ Carlos Alcaraz

Former world No. 12 Feliciano Lopez believes Carlos Alcaraz is a “special and rare player.”

Lopez, 40, is one of the most experienced players on the Tour and he claims he “has not seen many players like Alcaraz.”

Alcaraz, 18, captured his maiden ATP title in Umag this past summer and this month he made it all the way at the Next Gen ATP Finals.

Alcaraz is now set to make his Davis Cup debut.

“So many things make Alcaraz special, I haven’t see many players like him. Is very rare to see 18 years old kid behaving out of the court as he does in the court. He is much better than me at his age, so I don’t have particular advices for him,” Lopez said of Alcaraz, per Lorenzo Ercoli.

Alcaraz is being compared to Rafael Nadal

Alcaraz is one of the most exciting prospects in a long time and some are calling him the new Nadal.

“He absorbs it very well, without added pressure. Since everyone has started saying that he is the new player who could go right to the top, he has tried to stay in a small bubble. Above all, to try and stay on his own path. Carrying the burden of comparisons with a player like Rafa [Nadal] is difficult for such a young boy,” Alcaraz’s coach Juan Carlos Ferrero told the ATP website.

“He is very mentally strong but he still has a lot to learn – we saw it last week [he was in tears against Hugo Gaston in the last 16 of the Rolex Paris Masters]. There are things that he is unable to control. The fact that they compare him with Rafa is difficult but we have always handled it well. Him best of all. He wants to do things his own way and so far, he really is coping very well. We haven’t noticed more or less pressure because of this.”
