Leylah Fernandez becomes global ambassador for Cambridge Global Payments

US Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez has become the new global ambassador for Cambridge Global Payments, she announced on Monday.

Cambridge Global Payments, a FLEETCOR company, is a leading provider of integrated cross-border payment services and currency risk management solutions.

“As the global ambassador for Cambridge Global Payments, I am very excited to help promote their transition to their new brand,” Fernandez announced in a Twitter post.

Following her surprising run to the US Open final, Fernandez’s popularity instantly grew and now she is striking sponsorship deals.

Shortly her US Open campaign, Fernandez met former world No. 1 Maria Sharapova.

“I was lucky enough to to meet Maria Sharapova at the Met (Gala). We kind of chatted a little bit and she gave me some pretty good advice. She told me her own experience and the way that she was able to bounce back,” Fernandez revealed.

Bianca Andreescu happy about Fernandez’s success

“Amazing. Truly amazing. I’m super happy for her … hopefully we’ll be playing many finals against each other and with the Billie Jean King Cup I think we make a really great team,” Andreescu said of Fernandez’s run to the US Open final.

Marta Kostyuk, who is from the same generation as Leylah Fernandez and Emma Raducanu, admitted it was rough for her to watch Fernandez and Raducanu succeed at the US Open.

“I have to be honest,” Kostyuk started. “It was a bit rough for me to watch both of their runs. I’m trying to be the best I can be, so I obviously want to be where they are, and I’m sure it’s going to happen soon. It just didn’t feel very nice to watch them playing a final. It was very inspirational because it gave me strength and helped me realize that I can do the same thing. This is a thing they gave me, and I’m very thankful for that. Leading something is never easy: when you are the first, there’s always extra pressure and more expectations.”
