World No. 3 Alexander Zverev is concerned about the disappearance of Peng Shuai as he is hoping the Chinese is safe and that she will be found soon.
Peng went missing in China after accusing China’s former vice premier Zhang Gaoli of sexual assault.
The WTA, ATP released statements, demanding from China to release the informations about Peng and to conduct a proper investigation into her claims of sexual abuse.
“I have heard that she has disappeared. I hope she will be found soon. We are not talking about a tennis match, we are talking about a human life. This is much more relevant than anything we do here. I have already talked to a couple of players. It’s a crazy situation. We are talking about a human life here, a human being who just disappeared,” Zverev said, per SID.
Zverev, Novak Djokovic and Naomi Osaka concerned about Peng
A few days ago, world No. 1 Djokovic said it’s “shocking” to see Peng missing.
“It’s shocking…that she’s missing, more so that it’s someone that I have seen on the tour in the previous years quite a few times. …Hope she’ll be found, that she’s OK. It’s terrible…I can imagine just how her family feels, that she’s missing,” Djokovic said of Peng,
Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam champion, was devastated and shocked over the disappearance of Peng.
“Hey everyone, not sure if you have been following the news but I was recently informed of a fellow tennis player that has gone missing shortly after revealing that she has been sexually abused. Censorship is never OK at any cost, I hope Peng Shuai and her family are safe and OK. I’m in shock of the current situation and I’m sending love and light her way,” Osaka said in a tweet posted.
The WTA threatened to pull out all of 10 tournaments scheduled to take place in China next year if Peng is not found.
