WTA Finals: Barbora Krejcikova, Katerina Siniakova cap off dominant week with title

Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova have won the 2021 WTA Finals doubles title. 

Krejcikova and Siniakova delivered a strong performance in the final as they saw off Su-wei Hsieh and Elise Mertens 6-3 6-4. 

Krejcikova and Siniakova won all of their five matches in Guadalajara en route to winning their first WTA Finals title. 

Krejcikova and Siniakova were close to winning the WTA Finals in their debut in 2018 but ended runners-up.

In the 2019, Krejcikova and Siniakova failed to make it past the group stage at the WTA Finals.

“I think it was a really good day for us,” Krejcikova said, in post-match press. “I think we did everything the best way we could. I was really happy that our game style was working and that everything we said was working. I just think that we were a really good team out there today.

“It’s very, very special to get the trophy from Martina [Navratilova], who we look up to. She is a really big hero for us. The whole day was just amazing. I really enjoyed it. Yeah, now holidays!”

Krejcikova, Siniakova enjoyed a strong week 

Siniakova added: “This week was really good for us. I think we needed to stay aggressive, and we did it. We were really playing well. We keep the team spirit, so we were just trying, we fight. I’m just really happy that we have the trophy.”

Krejcikova and Siniakova failed to convert any of their three break points in the second game but also saved a break point in the third game. 

Krejcikova and Siniakova claimed the first break of the match in the sixth game but got broken back in the following game. 

However, Krejcikova and Siniakova kept their focus as they broke Hsieh and Mertens again in the eighth game before serving out for the opener in the ninth game. 

After winning the first set, Krejcikova and Siniakova started the second set with a break. 

Krejcikova and Siniakova failed to convert a match point in the ninth game but served out for the match in the following game.
