Karolina Pliskova explains what she did after getting bagel ed by Barbora Krejcikova

World No. 4 Karolina Pliskova acknowledged no one wants to start the match by getting bageled but she was glad that she managed to return to the basics and claim a comeback win over third-ranked Barbora Krejcikova.

Pliskova made the worst possible start to the match but she recovered to beat French Open champion Krejcikova 0-6 6-0 6-0.

“You never want to start a match like this, with my serve and with my game, not to be able to make a game,” Pliskova told the press, per the WTA website. “[It] was a combination of her playing well, me not playing that well.

“But you just go back to really trying to make the simple things with the serve, maybe just to go for the serve which you feel the most confident about. Just to play simple, maybe couple crosscourts, not to go for crazy winners.

“So I just fought hard to give myself a chance, at least to wait, maybe she’s going to miss a couple, because she didn’t really miss anything the first set. It actually happened, of course quite late. But happy I stayed in there and just waited for the chance. “

Pliskova created a big comeback

After losing the first set, Pliskova was also down 4-2 in the second set but then she claimed back-to-back breaks to win four games in a row and force a decider.

Pliskova then saved two break points in the ninth game of the third set, before breaking Krejcikova in the following game to seal a comeback win.

After the match, Pliskova speak about her partnership with coach Sascha Bajin.

“I thought we had a great year. There is still many things we want to improve. Honestly I feel happy with him. I feel he understands me. We kind of are working well together. Hopefully we can have couple more good years,” Pliskova said of her work with coach Bajin.
