WTA Finals 2021: Muguruza and Kontaveit’s wins HIGHLIGHTS

The extraordinary race of Anett Kontaveit, probably the most fit player among the eight Masters of the 2021 WTA Finals in Guadalajara, continues without hitches and interference. The Estonian player slips her twelfth consecutive victory with 24 out of 25 sets won by the US Open, she sweeps Karolina Pliskova off the court in the match that saw the winners of the first day face off and book a place in the semifinals.

The Czech game lasts only half a set. Up to 5-4 we proceed on serve with Kontaveit having to face three break points at 1-1 and nothing more. Called to serve to stay in the set at 4-5, Pliskova slips into the first break of the match where, however, the Estonian merits exceed Karolina’s atrocities.

With the first set closed, with the confidence that Kontaveit has at this time of the year, the rest of the match slips away in the blink of an eye. Estonian is perfect on serve and lethal in return.

On the other hand, Pliskova is disheartened and makes a couple of messes that cost her the break at the opening of the second set, the second in a row. It is a hole from which the Czech is no longer able to get out, on the contrary: Kontaveit is ruthless and even seals the practice with a bagel for a set that slightly exceeds 20 minutes in duration.

During the night Garbine Muguruza goes to the second match of the group with the Spaniard who won the match against the Czech Krejcikova by comeback. In the first set she goes on until 2-2, then the ISpaniard gives four consecutive games and consequently the first set.

In the second set it is a back and forth of emotions with the break in the eighth game that becomes decisive for the result. Everything is decided in the third set where both are more continuous and Garbine gets only one break in the third game, a break that allows her to close the match in over two hours of play (two hours and 13 minutes) with the result of 2-6 6-3 6-4.
