Leylah Fernandez, Paula Badosa and Belinda Bencic sign up to play Charleston

us Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez , Indian Wells Masters champion Paula Badosa and Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Belinda Bencic have all signed up to play Charleston in 2022, per Michael Samulski.

Fernandez, who is enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 24 in the world, is set to make her second Charleston appearance next year.

Fernandez debuted at the Charleston event this year but didn’t impress as she suffered a second round defeat to Danka Kovinic.

Badosa, who is enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 10 in the world, is also set for her second Charleston appearance.

In her Charleston debut — which came earlier this year — Badosa made the semifinal before losing to Veronika Kudermetova.

On the other side, Bencic is set for a sixth Charleston appearance.

Bencic’s best Charleston result came in 2014, when she made the semifinal.

Fernanded ended her season a bit prematurely

After her runner-up finish at the US Open, Fernandez appeared only at the Indian Wells Masters — where she lost in the round-of-16 to Shelby Rogers.

“Well, up to now there’s nothing going on in my plans,” Fernandez said after the defeat.

“We were going to have a meeting actually later tonight to see what I’m going to do. Representing Canada is an honour. We’ll see. We’ll see what’s to come next.”

Bencic’s season is also over but Badosa’s season hasn’t yet come to an end.

Spain’s Badosa is having her debut appearance at the WTA Finals.

Badosa is happy to be representing Spain at the WTA Finals alongside Garbine Muguruza.

“She is a player who has always been a mirror in which to look at myself,” Badosa said of Muguruza, per Arab News. “She broke all the stereotypes. Such a dynamic and aggressive game was not common in Spanish tennis.

“She is tall, different, my favorite. She has a game that I loved when I was growing up. I have always said that I would like to go where she has arrived. I am getting closer to her level and it’s an honor to have two Spanish women here.”
