Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki have always been friends beyond the tennis court. The American and the Dane have pursued their friendship far beyond sporting rivalry. Caroline Wozniacki married former NBA champion David Lee, and Serena was a bridesmaid at their wedding, where guests also included Angelique Kerber, sisters Agnieszka and Ursula Radwanska, Pau Gasol and Jesse Palmer.
On the court, Serena and Caroline met 11 times: Serena won 10 times, Caroline just 1. They challenge each other in a single Slam final, the US Open 2014, when Serena won in straight sets with a double 6-3. Wozniacki won only the quarterfinal match of the Miami Open 2012, with the score of 6-4 6-4.
These days Caroline shared a pic on her Twitter account of her di lei and Serena hanging out together. She captioned the photo: girls night. Serena shared the same pic on her Instagram Story of lei and she captioned it by saying: love you. To underline their friendship.
Wozniacki on Twitter: “Seerena Williams and I girls night!”
Wozniacki was world number one for 71 weeks, from October 2010 until January 2012 and again in January 2018. She was the first tennis player from a Scandinavian country to reach the top of the WTA rankings and win a Slam tournament, goal achieved at the Australian Open 2018.
In her career she has won thirty WTA tournaments, including the 2017 WTA Finals and the aforementioned Australian Grand Slam. She also reached two other Grand Slam finals, both lost, at the US Open, in 2009 and 2014. She holds the record for the first player ever to have beaten three different number ones in the same year, a feat accomplished in 2017, when she defeated Karolina Pliskova, Garbine Muguruza and Simona Halep.
Serena, after the problems she had in 2021, culminating in her injury and tears at Wimbledon, should return to the court for the long-awaited Australian Swing 2022, where she should play the Australian Open, a tournament in which all the biggest tennis players on the planet should participate, including Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
Serena is looking for her 24 Slam, a title that would equal the record that today belongs to Margaret Court. After maternity, Serena played four Grand Slams, losing both of them, two at the US Open and two at Wimbledon: in London against Angelique Kerber and Simona Halep, in New York against Naomi Osaka and Bianca Andreescu.
