Daniil Medvedev drops major praise on Carlos Alcaraz

World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev thinks it is “incredible” what Carlos Alcaraz is doing at the age of 18.

Alcaraz captured his maiden ATP title this past summer in Umag and stunned world No. 3 Stefanos Tsitsipas at the US Open.

Alcaraz is currently enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 35 in the world.

Medvedev was awaiting the winner of the Alcaraz and Hugo Gaston clash in the Paris Masters quarterfinal.

“When I’m thinking about Alcaraz and Gaston, I feel I’m old. When I was 18-y old, I was #700 and finally won a Future. What Alcaraz’s doing is incredible. Gaston is fun to watch. They’re playing late, it’s not usual for them, when I was young I struggled with that,” Medvedev said, per Tennis Majors.

Medvedev joins others in praising Alcaraz

On Thursday, world No. 9 Jannik SInner spoke highly of Alcaraz after losing to the Spaniard in the second round.

“A good match on both sides. Hopefully we can play many many more matches. I think it will be the case. We play at a very high level and we are young. It was a good start for both of us,” Sinner said after the loss.

“We both are different players, Alcaraz and I, but the common thing we have is that we work very very hard with great teams. He’s not focusing on the press excitement. I don’t either. Today was not my day, but we’ll play more matches.”

In the first round, Alcaraz survived a thriller that lasted nearly three hours.

After the match, Pierre-Hugues Herbert spoke highly of Alcaraz.

“He’s a phenomenon because he’s winning with maturity, which is extraordinary for his age. He has results that only the best are able to have at his age, so he’s an excellent tennis player… He impressed me indeed with his maturity for his age. But I knew that [already],” Herbert said of Alcaraz following their clash.”
