Even though Feliciano Lopez did not play any tennis match at this year’s Laver Cup edition, the Spanish player enjoyed spending time with his European colleagues, and that made him grateful both to Roger Federer, the tennis icon behind the Laver Cup idea, and Bjorn Borg, Team Europe’s successful captain.
“I really had a blast guys! It’s been an “AMEIIIIII-SIN” week of tennis and memories that will stay forever with me. It was very nice to witness that you clearly are the future of tennis and most importantly you are a bunch of great guys! Special mention to the one and only Andrey Rublev who has made our week memorable!!” said Lopez on an Instagram featuring a group photo with his teammates.
Andrey Rublev was named MVP of this year’s Laver Cup by Feliciano Lopez. Rublev, who is ranked No. 5 in the world, was unbeatable at the Laver Cup this past weekend. Rublev won his solitary singles match at the Laver Cup, as well as both of his doubles matches. Read more about why Lopez praised Rublev.
Lopez’s words of gratitude towards Federer and Borg
At 40 years of age, Lopez felt great to be part of the vanquishing Team Europe. As a consequence, the Spanish player made sure to thank the people that made his participation possible, Borg, Enqvist, and Federer.
“Thank you to our captain Bjorn Borg and vice-captain Thomas Enqvist for trusting me and giving me the chance to be part of Team Europe. And last but not least big thanks to Roger Federer and the whole Laver Cup team for putting such an amazing event. Let’s go Europe!” wrote Feliciano Lopez on Instagram.
Team Europe dominated Team World, winning by a score of 14-1. Team Europe has yet to lose to Team World in the Laver Cup since its inception in 2017.
