Felix Auger-Aliassime signs up to play Marseille in 2022

World No. 11 Felix Auger-Aliassime has been confirmed for the 2022 edition of ATP 250 event in Marseille, the tournament announced on Saturday.

The 21-year-old Canadian is set to make his second appearance on the indoor hard courts of Marseille.

Auger-Aliassime debuted at the Marseille event in 2020, when he made the final before losing to world No. 3 Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Auger-Aliassime skipped this year’s Marseille edition but he is set to return to the event in 2022.

Auger-Aliassime has yet to win an ATP title and he will certainly be one of players that will highlight the 2022 Marseille player field.

The announcement came the day after Auger-Aliassime’s Laver Cup opener

On Friday, Auger-Aliassime lost a tight battle to Wimbledon runner-up Matteo Berrettini at the Laver Cup.

Berrettini, who is enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 7 in the world, recovered from a set down to edge out Auger-Aliassime 6-7 (3) 7-5 10-8.

Auger-Aliassime had two break points in the 11th game of the second set, before getting broken in the following game and losing the set.

“Of course it’s disappointing to lose. At the same time I think I have showed and reflected how much this team wants to win. You know, it’s only the start of the weekend, we’ve got a lot of matches ahead and I’m aire we are going to give it everything to win,” Auger-Aliassime said after the match.

Meanwhile, Berrettini admitted he didn’t know how he pulled off a comeback win over Auger-Aliassime.

“I don’t know,” Berrettini said, when asked how did he overturn the deficit against Auger-Aliassime. Just fighting. I felt the match was really hard. You know, Felix was playing really good, not giving me anything, no mistakes, serving really well. I felt a different energy, to know that I’m playing for my team, not just for myself, for my family. I felt great and they helped me a lot.”
