Ashleigh Barty: “Playing a final at Wimbledon is incredible”

World number one Ashleigh Barty continues her run to Wimbledon, what could turn out to be her second Grand Slam title in her career. The Australian tennis player appeared radiant in the press conference after winning the semifinal, thanks to a convincing victory over the German expert already winning at Wimbledon Angelique Kerber, beaten in about an hour and a half of play with the result of 6-3; 7 -6.

The tennis player revealed her feelings about the match and her dream of winning the London Slam tournament. The Australian tennis player made the following statements: “It was incredible, reaching the final is a moment of relief for me, indeed a moment of pure emotion. It’s something I never imagined I’d hear and having the opportunity to play a final at Wimbledon is incredible.

This race was really at a great level, I think the best I had played in a long time, Angie was an extraordinary opponent and in some places she seemed to have the upper hand, but I fought and controlled the game when needed.

The feelings on the match point were really great. The mental aspect is very important, when you play these matches the stakes are very high and it is easy for me to think that I am only playing one tennis match. But the work behind the scenes is important, I try to enjoy the results. I had a lot of fun, this was my main approach and I wanted to play like that regardless of the result, then I gave it my all.

My staff is large but not everyone is with me this week, I have family at home and also coaches and physiotherapists in Australia, I have my coach here with Tyz and Garry. It’s great to be able to share these moments with people who have devoted so much time to my career and encourage me to work towards our goal. Sharing these moments is special.”

Finally speaking of her opponent Ashleigh said: “I think any Grand Slam semifinal is excellent but Angelique is an incredible opponent, she is a great champion who has already been successful here and has pulled out the best of me. Being up to this meeting was very important and exciting for me.”
