Barbara Schett: “Djokovic will win more Slams than Nadal and Federer”

One of the topics that arouses the most curiosity and creates a debate among tennis fans is the fight for the GOAT, the strongest tennis player of all time. This fight has for some time now been the protagonist of the three greatest legends of contemporary tennis, namely the number one in the world Novak Djokovic and his great rivals Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

Together they have 58 Grand Slam titles under their belt and many agree that the number of Slams at the end of their career determines who will be the so-called GOAT among the three. The last year has seen victories by Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal with the latter having reached 20 Majors with his great rival Roger Federer thanks to the victory of Roland Garros 2020.

Nole, on the other hand, won his last Grand Slam at the Australian Open 2021, reached 18 and thus approached his rivals. In this period the Serbian champion has reached and overtaken Federer in the record of weeks at the top of the ATP rankings and is now ready for the umpteenth challenge of his career.

Schett’s words on the Big Three

The former tennis player and current Eurosport commentator Barbara Schett took stock of the fight at the GOAT and who will finish with the most Grand Slams at the end of their career and her words were clear.

She said: “I think the battle to see who will end their career with the most Slams is reduced to Nadal and Djokovic. Roger Federer may think he can win Wimbledon again but I honestly don’t see how that’s possible at his age.

He has been away from the fields for a very long time and it seems that his physique and athletic condition are really far from the best of him. I would like him to succeed but I think it’s hard to fight for five sets against young people at 40. I retired from tennis at 28 and I considered myself old, thinking about him playing at 40 is really incredible.”

About the fight in the Slams, she specifies: “I think Nadal and Djokovic are both physically well and in general we have to thank everyone the Big Three for what they gave to tennis. We will never see anything like this again, their careers have been exceptional but if I have to express myself and have my say I say that Novak Djokovic will probably finish his career with more Grand Slam titles than Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.”
