Garrick Higgo for the double in the Canaries

South Africans still protagonists in the Canaries where the trio of consecutive successes in the Canaries is close thanks to Garrick Higgo, new leader, with 193 (66 63 64, -20) strokes, of the Canary Islands Championship, the European Tour golf tournament. While the blue Francesco Laporta lost ground, from 3 / o to 9 / o with 200 (62 68 70, -13).

Garrick Higgo, Canary Islands Championship

After winning the Gran Canaria Lopesan Open (then there was the affirmation of compatriot Dean Burmester at the Tenerife Open) Higgo, 21 years old from Johannesburg, is chasing an encore in Tenerife and his third career exploit on the top continental circuit (in September 2020 won the Open de Portugal). Higgo after the “moving day” (closed with 4 birdies in the last 4 holes) has two strokes ahead of the English Richard Mansell, second with 195 (-18). The great protagonist of the day was the Finnish Tapio Pulkkanen who, with a bogey free lap in 61 (-10), at Golf Costa Adeje (par 71) equaled the course record and is now 4 / o with 196 (-15) alongside the British Andrew Johnston and the Australian Maverick Antcliff.

Leading at the end of the first round, then third, Laporta – 30 years old from Puglia – is now 9 / o 7 shots away from Higgo. While Nino Bertasio from Brescia is 45 / o with 205 (-8) and precedes Edoardo Molinari from Turin, 50 / o with 206 (-7).

In Italy it is possible again to organize and play golf competitions in the yellow zone. The good news was communicated in time by the Federgolf.

After the one relating to the abolition of the examination of the rules, the Federation issues another circular (number 16), less surprising than the previous one but very much awaited.

Starting from April 26, 2021 it is allowed, exclusively for the territories located in the yellow zone, to carry out any sporting golf activity outdoors, in compliance with the guidelines adopted by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers – Department for Sport.

After careful analysis of the current legislation and unless otherwise and any guidance should be provided by the Department of Sport of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, any golf sporting activity, events, demonstrations and competitions (including social and pro -am) if carried out outdoors and in compliance with the Federal Protocol.

With reference to the performance of the amateur sports activity referred to there, the use of changing rooms is prohibited unless otherwise established by the guidelines referred to in the first sentence.

For the territories located in the orange and red areas, the prescriptions made with previous legislative measures remain valid and effective.

A great step forward after months of lockouts or general play. Once again it’s up to us now to respect the rules (not just those of golf) so that golf never stops.
