Roger Federer, recognized as one of the greatest players of all time, has amassed an army of fans over the past two decades. The 20-time Major Champion has had many memorable moments on the tennis court, scoring some of the biggest victories in our sport and writing history. On Thursday, Federer announced that he will auction a collection of personal items this summer, offering his fans the opportunity to own a piece of tennis history. Two sales will be held in June and July at Christie’s to raise funds for his foundation. A live auction on June 23 will feature 20 pieces, each reflecting one of Federer’s greatest triumphs, priced between £ 3,000 and £ 70,000. Many include the outfit and racket from Federer’s historic 2009 Roland Garros victory over Robin Soderling in the title match, after which the Swiss completed a Career Grand Slam. One lucky owner will also get the shoes still covered in Roland Garros clay dust. Fans and collectors will bid on the 2007 uniform and racket that Roger wore in the fifth consecutive Wimbledon title game, his second against Rafael Nadal, including shoes decorated with Swiss flags indicating the number of his Wimbledon titles. Federer’s stylish RF print white cardigan from the 2012 Wimbledon final against Andy Murray is also for sale, along with the shoes that led him to the third Wimbledon title in 2005 against Andy Roddick. Recently, Roger Federer was praised by upcoming tennis sensation, Dominic Stricker. The Swiss teenager is in awe of his compatriot. The pair practiced for three weeks in Dubai earlier this season. When Roger was busy training while being on the sidelines, Dominic was his practice partner.
Stricker talks about Roger Federer
18-year-old Dominic Stricker stated, “It was just an amazing feeling to practice with Roger Federer. I was with him for three weeks in Dubai and I learned a lot. I’m very happy to show what he taught me. The biggest lesson is what he told me to do on serve.” Federer is scheduled to resume his season at the ATP Geneva Open 2021. It will be a good addition to his calendar because he intends to compete at the French Open this season. At the moment, players are focused on competing at the Mutua Madrid Open. Players like Rafael Nadal, Stefanos Tsitsipas will be headlining the tournament. A second online auction in July will feature 300 lower-priced items affordable for a wider variety of fans, such as the wristbands that Federer wore during his 1500 professional match in Basel 2019 against Peter Gojowczyk.
