Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek appeared before the media at a press conference to analyze her feelings after the defeat against Croatian Ana Konjuh, in the third round match of the Miami Open 2021. She started the match as a big favorite to win the game, but Ana Konjuh was superior in the most important moments of the match.
She said: “I knew the difficulty of the match and the truth is that Ana deserved to win. As I read in her post-match interview on twitter, she played very offensive and didn’t want me to play forehand. Undoubtedly the tactics performed proved to be successful. She played very aggressively and all her balls went into her.
It is true that I was waiting for her mistakes and those came in the second set. I thought that in the third set I could have some options, but she was very concrete and showed that she deserves the victory. I am a little angry at the level I expressed with the second serve. I gave my opponent the opportunity to attack me.”
Swiatek took stock of the first three months of the competition, where she brought out many positives and very few negatives: “The only tournament I am not satisfied with was the WTA Melbourne I, so I really think it was a great start to the season. I managed to reach the fourth round of the Australian Open and win my second title as a professional tennis player.
So that’s great, I’m really happy. The games I lost were against superior opponents and they deserved the victory. The important thing is that I’m fine, motivated and willing to give my all for the clay tour. For me it will be the most important part of the season. Now I’ll have days off to get ready.”
Target tournaments on clay
Finally, Iga Swiatek confessed how happy it makes her to play on clay: “In terms of training, clay is more complicated. I feel comfortable and love playing on clay. I feel my joints are not that tired after the concrete tour.
That’s very good for me. I can’t wait for my clay court time to come again. The clay start last year was not good for me, because I lost in the first round in Rome. Then it all ended in the best way, winning Roland Garros. I will enjoy every game and every tournament,” she concluded.
