Top-10 stars Andrey Rublev and Dominic Thiem will play an exhibition encounter at Arena Ciudad de México in Mexico City on September 16. The organizers expect 17,000 spectators in another tennis show after that memorable one between Roger Federer and Alexander Zverev from 2019. Tennis Showdown sports director and former tennis player Nicolas Almagro is pleased to bring two future no. 1 players to Mexico, promising an exciting night of tennis in front of the Mexican fans. Dominic and Andrey have recently been among the world’s best players, challenging the rivals from the top and winning notable titles.
The Austrian and the Russian have met five times on the Tour, with Rublev winning the last three matches to take the lead. They have become good friends and regular training partners, with another exciting duel coming in Mexico in half a year. In their most recent clash, Rublev scored a 6-2, 7-5 triumph at the ATP Finals in November for his only win in London. Andrey lost serve once and produced four breaks from ten opportunities, hitting 26 winners and nine unforced errors to control the scoreboard and cross the finish line.
Andrey Rublev and Dominic Thiem have set Mexico City encounter for September.
“I have heard some great things, and I am happy to return to Mexico. The last time was in Acapulco 2018, and it has been around for a long time. I was in Mexico City for the last time in 2010, 11 years ago, so I was already looking to return soon. I like traveling to Mexico since my junior days. I went to Acapulco four times, people love tennis there, and it was incredible when Roger Federer and Alexander Zverev played in 2019. The Mexicans know a lot about tennis, and it’s a pleasure to play there,” Dominic Thiem said.
“On a sporting level, we are lucky to have two players like Dominic Thiem and Andrey Rublev in an event like this one; it fils me with satisfaction and should bring joy to the Mexican people, as they will get a chance to see the future world no. 1 players. They are lucky enough to see them in action at this special event, and I’m pleased about that,” Tennis Showdown sports director Nicolas Almagro said.
