Nick Kyrgios withdraws from Miami Masters

Six-time ATP champion Nick Kyrgios has withdrawn from the upcoming Miami Masters.

Kyrgios, a former world No. 13, made four consecutive appearances in Miami between 2016 and 2019.

Kyrgios made back-to-back semifinals in his first two appearances at the Miami event but then made only back-to-back round-of-16 appearances.

In his first Miami semifinal, Kyrgios lost to Kei Nishikori and in his second Miami semifinal Kyrgios lost to Roger Federer.

Kyrgios continues to pull out of events

Kyrgios’ last appearance came at the Australian Open, where he lost to Dominic Thiem in the third round.

“It doesn’t feel like I’ve been away for a year,” Kyrgios said after losing to Thiem, per Tennis Australia. “Atmospheres like that are special and not many people get to play like that. “I embrace it every time I’m out there

“The energy out there was special. I’m still proud of myself. You know, I took 13 months away from the game, and to produce that level and go toe to toe with one of the best players in the world, I’m pretty proud. I left it all out there.”

Kyrgios has no pulled out of three consecutive events as previously he withdrew from Doha and Dubai.

“I “can change like the wind. I’m not too sure, depending on what happens with COVID in Australia, you know, I’m assuming we will probably settle it pretty quickly. But I don’t know how I’ll have to quarantine in overseas in tournaments,” Kyrgios said after the Thiem loss.

“For me personally, man, I’m used to playing in front of packed stadiumds. I’m not gonna force myself around the world when the time is not right where I have to quarantine for a week and then play. I don’t know, I’m not too sure what lies ahead.”

It remains to be seen when will Kyrgios be ready to return to action.
