Like a year ago, Novak Djokovic claimed the Australian Open title to heat the GOAT race and put more pressure on his great rivals Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. The three legends are now separated by two Major trophies, and Novak is eager to catch Federer and Nadal and finish his career with the most Major crowns on his tally. On Sunday, Novak Djokovic defeated Daniil Medvedev 7-5, 6-2, 6-2 in an hour and 53 minutes for his ninth Australian Open title and the 18th Major, gathering a boost ahead of Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open. Novak’s coach Goran Ivanisevic was delighted with the outcome, saying the GOAT chase is on again. Praising his pupil, Federer and Nadal, Ivanisevic said they are unbelievable, producing their best tennis when many think they are done.

The Croat is sure that Nadal will win at least one more Roland Garros title, wishing that the Spaniard will not go beyond that one, so Novak would have a chance to pass both him and Roger. In the title match, Djokovic was too strong for Medvedev, prevailing in the opening set with a late break and dominating since the early stages of set number two to extend his Melbourne reign and remain on Nadal’s and Federer’s trail.
“This is great. Number 18 is secured, and now the chase is on. It should be great, as Novak has a lot of confidence. Rafa will win at least one more Major; I hope not two, but one for sure. All three are unbelievable; they produce better and better tennis when you think they are gone. The young guns are coming, they are here, but these guys are better, one step better in the finals. I don’t know where is the end of their domination. It’s amazing what they are doing on the court and how they perform in big matches. I’m waiting for Roger to come back. It’s going to be more interesting to see what will happen at Roland Garros and Wimbledon. I said a couple of years ago that Rafa and Novak will both overtake Roger, and I still believe that,” Goran Ivanisevic said.
